Well, it took four and a half years to get here, but I’ve finally managed to ink up 1000 posts on this weblog. I wish I had something more inspirational to say, but that’s about it. This isn’t even an April Fool’s day joke either.
While gaining a readership has not been the goal of this weblog, certainly quite a few people read this site daily. According to Google Analytics, since 2007, the most read post on this site was my rather inflammatory post about Hurricane Dean. This caused my visitor count to spike up to 655 visits. Second place was 255 visits on March 17, 2008 (an analysis of the March 17 by-elections).
Unfortunately I don’t have reliable data on anything before that, but I have been averaging about 100 visits a day; this is compared to about 50 visits a day back early in 2007.
Oddly enough, my post on How to Best Exploit Aeroplan, despite being posted in the middle of 2006, continues to be the second most popular topic.
According to HTTP logs, I get about 400 unique visitors a day, but most of them are likely bots and spammers trying to get stuff posted in the comments section of this weblog. Akismet has been quite effective at filtering out most of the junk.
Geographically, 66% of my visitors are from Canada, 21% are from the USA and 2.6% are from the United Kingdom.
In terms of who’s driving traffic to the site, Google is referring 67% of the traffic, while 15% of the traffic is being brought direct (e.g. people’s bookmarks) and 3.3% is from Yahoo.
