Blog Burnout

When I’m in a writing mood, I usually crank out a lot of content in a short period of time – this month and last month are unusually active for me. After the binge of writing, post volume declines for a few months. I recall after the May 2005 provincial election (of which I wrote quite heavily before the event) I didn’t post too much – not only is the quantity down but the quality is down as well.

I wonder if this is a seasonal thing, or whether this can be scientifically validated, i.e. what factors lead to people writing more or less?

I notice that after the Federal election (which causes a lot of people to write prolifically) a few of the weblogs that I subscribe to are slowing down. I know the feeling – recharging the batteries is good for your health. Personally, I noticed the creeping symptoms of political burnout and am curious to see whether restraining my research to balanced doses will help promote sustainable weblogging.

I have no idea how some people can crank out consistently good material day in and day out – their mental stamina is incredible.
